teamLab Planets Tokyo is the digital art museum founded by the international art collective teamLab, located in Toyosu, Tokyo. The concept behind Planets is body-immersive: interactive installations that bring people physically inside the imagination of teamLab. Art has always privileged sight over other senses, and through the various installations in Planets, teamLab aims to transform art from something to be experienced visually to something to be experienced with the entire body. Visitors can expect to walk through knee-high water and lie beneath a sky of digital flowers.(Excerpt from the text)

In the exhibition spaces of teamLab’s Borderless Museum in Tokyo, boulder-sized flower petals twirl and flit in infinite space, encapsulating visitors as they lay on a mirrored floor. Bushels of animated cherry blossoms sprout as patrons press their palms on the gallery walls, creating an entire self-contained ecosystem with the help of other visitors. In these rooms, with floors and walls shrouded in light projections and mirrors, space becomes boundless, and time feels limitless. (Excerpt from the text)
The second episode of Cross Border Conversations pairs London-based architects Lara Lesmes and Fredrik Hellberg of multidisciplinary studio Space Popular with Takashi Kudo, who helms communications at art collective teamLab based in Tokyo.
The freewheeling chat led by STIR’s Editor, Arts, Rahul Kumar, explores the overlaps between Lara, Fredrik and Takashi’s practices that find common ground in the virtual space - where one is involved in transcending the footprint of architecture beyond the physical realm, the other connects art with its lovers to ensure that it is not only seen but fully experienced as one being an extension of the other. teamLab was founded by Toshiyuki Inoko and some of his friends. The aim was to create a laboratory to explore what the world means for humans through new experiments in art.
Made by an interdisciplinary group of specialists, artists, programmers, engineers, CG animators, mathematicians and architects, teamLab’s collaborative practice seeks to navigate the confluence of art, science, technology, and the natural world.(Excerpt from the text)
Let's face it. Museums can sometimes be a bit... boring. The stuffy atmosphere. Abstract scrawlings that just don't seem to want to be understood. That expectation of silent contemplation that somehow leaves you more drained than edified.
At worst, an art museum can sometimes feel like literally watching paint dry.
But what would it be like if a museum was an immersive experience in itself? (Excerpt from the text)
If you've never heard of TeamLab then you are missing out! TeamLab is a digital art museum full of beautiful pieces of art and music that form one big borderless world. The artwork moves amongst each other intermingling and never staying in one space. The pieces move throughout your time there so it's a good idea to check out a room more than once because it may be different the second time around. When you walk in you find yourself in a dark room only to be lit by the artwork. Flowers were floating all around us. The colors were absolutely beautiful.(Excerpt from the text)
