Sauna trance: art and sauna bathing collide at mesmerising new Tokyo art exhibition

Global art collective teamLab has combined art and sauna to offer an immersive exhibition in Roppongi, Tokyo, called teamLab & TikTok, teamLab Reconnect: Art with Rinkan Sauna Roppongi. Running until the end of August 2021, the dynamic and interactive sensory exhibition invites guests to view mesmerising artworks while in a meditative state called a sauna trance, brought on by contrast bathing cycles. teamLab Debuts New Flame Installations in Tokyo

After participating in the Noor Riyadh light and art festival, teamLab returns to its native Tokyo to unveil two new flame installations. Entitled Universe of Fire Particles Falling from the Sky and Universe of Fire Particles, the interactive public artworks were inspired by the phenomenon of light and heat generated by combustion. The digital technologists over at acclaimed Japanese art collective translated this phenomenon into a work that shows “a collection of lines drawn by the movement of molecules of burning gas,” as per a description. teamLab’s latest artwork is available as a TikTok filter for free

Digital art collective teamLab is going from strength to strength lately. Besides its two popular museums in Tokyo, it has recently launched a series of new projects including teamLab Reconnect, a sauna in Roppongi with digital art experiences. This new artwork was released in conjunction with teamLab Reconnect, but you don't have to visit the sauna to experience it – it's on TikTok.
