TEAMLAB TO OPEN IMMERSIVE ART AND SAUNA EXPERIENCE IN TOKYO

teamLab has unveiled an official look at its latest project – a combined art and sauna experience in Tokyo, Japan. The immersive space, titled “TikTok teamLab Reconnect,” is created in collaboration with the video-sharing social media platform. The exhibition features a sauna trance, where visitors can jump in hot and cold baths amid an array of colorful lights. TeamLab is known for mind-bending visuals that push boundaries of how to experience art, but this feels like a first. In Tokyo’s Roppongi district, the digital art collective set up a giant tent complete with bursting flower walls and hundreds of butterflies darting around a screen of tiny water particles. It also includes a sauna, allowing visitors to navigate three art installations in their bathing suits. “Art is traditionally exhibited in luxurious places like palaces or museums,” says TeamLab member Takashi Kudo. “We wanted to create a luxurious state of mind for people to experience it.” Social distancing and ample ventilation were considered so the experience, which runs through the end of August, meets government standards.(Excerpt from the text)
