“teamLabBody -3D Motion Human Anatomy-” is a medical app created under the supervision of Prof. Kazuomi Sugamoto (Osaka University Orthopedic Biomaterial Science Laboratory, Orthopaedic Surgeon). It is the world’s first app to reproduce the movement of a living human with 3D visuals of muscles, nerves, bones, and joints of the whole body. The World’s First Reproduction! The Skeletal Movement of a Living Human The movement of the joints of a living human, not found in medical resources, reproduced in 3D World’s First to Analyze and Reproduce the 3D Movement of Living Human Joints. The research started from 1998 after discovering that the movement of living human joints differs from what is mentioned in medical references. Data has been taken for more than 10 years from CT and MRI images of living human to observe the arrangement and movement of every single joint and to analyze them with computer programs. Mode Description 3D ALL BODY MODE Choose a specific muscle, ligament, nerve, blood vessel, or bone to see it individually in 3D. (The angle and magnification can be freely adjusted.) BONE MOTION MODE Watch the skeletal movement of a living human in 3D. (Select the direction of movement from multiple choices.) (The angle and magnification can be freely adjusted.) “I wanted to see the 3D movements of the joints.” Professor Kazuomi Sugamoto, from the laboratory of “Orthopedic Biomaterial Science” of Osaka University, and his research team had created the world’s first method for analyzing 3-dimensional movements of the joints of living people, which became the base of teamLabBody -3D Motion Human Anatomy-. Up to this time, x-ray projection images on two-dimensional surfaces and three-dimensional still images by CT and MRI scans have been used as reference for orthopedic treatments and surgery. However, these were not enough for treating dislocated shoulder joints or for artificial knee joint replacements of gonarthrosis patients. Thereupon, Prof. Sugamoto’s research team created the technology mentioned below to analyze the 3-dimensional movements of joints. *Registration with CT or MRI 3D images of bones are constructed by extracting specific bones from CT or MRI images. The images are shot in the orbital path of the joints from several positions. In addition, the distance moved and the angle of transferal rotation can be calculated by making the bones of each position overlap. *2D-3D Registration The behavior of joints can be observed as a movie by estimating the coordination of spacial positions of bones from every X-ray projection image frame using a computer program. By exchanging opinions with clincians, the team was also able to obtain highly accurate representations of the arrangements and movements of bones and muscles in 3D motion graphics, which similar services couldn’t make possible. teamLabBody Usage For orthopedic surgeons and physical therapists *teamLabBody -3D Motion Human Anatomy- is useful for studying anatomy and kinetics and for clinical practices. *The existence of important nerves hidden behind muscles can easily be found, making surgery plans easier.
