It is said that about 1,300 years ago, the famous Buddhist priest Gyoki came to Mifuneyama and carved a total of three Buddha figures and five hundred Arhats on rocks which he then placed in a cave. After carving these five hundred Arhats, the severely ill Gyoki was believed to have carved the three Buddha figures while praying for his recovery. These figures still remain on the walls of the cave today.
